La Virginia Resort

My aunt dropped by the Philippines for a quick visit last July, so naturally we crammed as many activities as we could during her short stay here to make the most of it. One of the places we went to was the La Virginia Resort in Lipa.  My parents found it online and they liked it so they booked us a cottage for one weekend.

We left our house at around 8am and arrived at the resort a little past 10am.  We checked in at the entrance and headed off to find our cottage.  We had to do quite a bit of walking from the parking lot to get there, but there were so many interesting things to see along the way that we didn’t really mind.  (Although I can’t really speak for Ezra – she looked as though she was about to pass out by the time we reached our cottage XD)

But she still managed to smile for this photo

The resort placed us at the Lalen House.  (I kinda covered up the sign … whoops.  All you can see is “EN”)

IMG_5951 (1)

There were 5 bunk beds inside, so there was enough room for 10 people.  The “kids” got to stay on the top bunk while the adults slept at the bottom – mainly because they didn’t have the energy to climb up and down the ladders.  It was nice and cozy inside.  The only downside is that there was only one bathroom O_o

Since it was the weekend, Ckloy was able to join us, yay~

By 11am, we were mostly settled in so we decided to have lunch.

IMG_5951 (2)

There were no tables inside the cottage so we had our meals at this little picnic area at the back

Since we all woke up early that morning and it was still too hot to go sight seeing, we all decided to take a quick nap after lunch in our nice airconditioned room.  We woke up at around 3pm to walk around and explore the resort.

IMG_5968

The place was HUGE!!!

IMG_5987a

I don’t know how many pools they had but I’m pretty sure they had at least 5 big ones and a bunch of tiny ones for kids.

Hmm … very clever Ezra

IMG_5987

Looks like Raffy adopted Ckloy’s tradition of posing next to trash bins XD

IMG_5999

We found this pool with these cute jumping dolphins so we decided to do some jump shots with them in the background:

IMG_6011

I pulled a muscle after this shot T__T  It was PAINFUL!  And the sad news is that the shot didn’t even turn out that great, hmph~

IMG_6018

Ckloy pulled a muscle too, but at least his jump shot is worth it.  (I think we probably should have stretched a bit first before all that jumping..  We’re getting old baby T__T)

But we recovered quickly and took a few more shots:

IMG_6024

But he’s got some moves of his own

IMG_6028

This shot reminds me of old arcade fighting games (Because of the background I suppose.  Fighting games always have the most interesting backgrounds XD)

IMG_6031

I must go!  My people need me!

IMG_5990

The resort offered zipline rides so we were pretty excited about that.  We headed over there to see if they were open.

IMG_6032a (3)a

We had to pass by this Ifugao Village to get there

The ride costs P300 per person (if I remember correctly).  We signed a few waivers and got strapped in:

For an additional fee you could get your picture taken by their official photographer:

Happy people with our zipline photos

They also offered wall climbing but we decided to postpone that till the next morning since we wanted to explore the resort some more that afternoon

We found another Buddha

IMG_6137

After taking pictures, we saw this sign.  Oops …  (They probably should have placed the sign somewhere next to the Buddha instead in the corner where people like us could miss it …)

IMG_6364

Eeeeek!

IMG_6181

My baby ish cho kyot~

IMG_6143a (1)

My dad told us to stand still so he could take a photo XD

IMG_6143a (3)

Scooby Doo, is that you?

Hmm, so that means …

IMG_6160

Hiya Shaggy!

IMG_6337a (2)

That is one huge horse…

When we first arrived at the resort, we saw a castle near the entrance, so we decided to go there to take some photos.

IMG_6177

Ta-dah!

IMG_6187

“Draw me like one of your French girls”

Tinkerbell is that you?

IMG_6166a (3)

IMG_6204

Welcome to our humble abode

IMG_6239

Come in!  Come in!  Make yourselves at home!

We took a few shots by the castle (it was locked so we couldn’t go inside) then we headed over to the pool right next to it:

IMG_6248

Ckloy thought the tiny planes were cute

IMG_6270

My mom liked them too

IMG_6254

Umm … I’m pretty sure that’s not how you ride a helicopter (especially if the blades are attached)

IMG_6166a (4)

We found Iron Man!

IMG_6291

And the Hulk!

IMG_6308

Rawwwwr!

IMG_6327

Ckloy decided to challenge Yabuki Joe to a boxing match

IMG_6337

*Pow!*

They had a small chapel at the resort, so our family attended the 6pm mass.  The resort owner (Doña Virginia) also attended mass so we asked to have our photo taken with her afterwards:

(She’s the one in purple, holding my dad’s hand)

It was too dark to explore the resort after this so we headed back to our cottage to grab a quick dinner before going swimming in one of the resort’s pools.  We paddled around for a bit before washing up and turning in for the night.

The next day we all got up early to go wall climbing

IMG_6360

We grabbed a quick breakfast first to get some energy

Then we made our way over to the wall climbing area:

IMG_6372

Hmm … looks pretty tall

I’ve only gone wall climbing twice before this, but the were both very small walls so I had no problems with them.  I’ve never tried to climb something this tall before.

Ezra and I decided to go first

Listening to instructions from our belayer

IMG_6394

Here we go!  Ezra took the harder side (the one with the slope – what do you call that anyway), I chose to go the easier route

IMG_6394a (3)

Which turned out to not be so easy after all… I lost my grip and fell off within the first 2 minutes!  (Ezra’s looking at me and thinking “Dude, what’s wrong with you??”)

IMG_6394a (2)

Fortunately there was no time limit so we could try again and take as long as we wanted

IMG_6402

Getting nearer.   I almost gave up about 3/4th of the way through because it got so difficult.  The holds became really small and farther apart as we went up the wall.  But I had a lot of people cheering me on and I managed to reach the top.  Yatta!

We weren’t able to time it, but I was told it took me about 15 minutes.  Not too shabby if you ask me.  Ezra did well until she reached the angled part.  The belayer told us that we needed a lot of upper body strength for that, which unfortunately Ezra didn’t have.  She tried her best but eventually called it quits after 20 minutes.

IMG_6436

Super proud of myself!   Yaaay~

Next up was Ninang and Raffy:

IMG_6430

IMG_6451

IMG_6454

Unfortunately none of them made it to the very top.  But they did get pretty far.  Ninang reached the 3/4th mark (where I almost gave up as well) and Raffy got to the angled part too before calling it quits.

Last was my mom and Ckloy:

Ckloy went up so fast!

IMG_6521

He reached the top in less than 5 minutes!

IMG_6521a

Hoooray!  Congrats baby!~

IMG_6553a

My mom gave up after about 8 minutes after she broke a nail (lol), but she’s still pretty proud of herself.

We were super hot and sweaty after all that climbing so we jumped into the pool after this to cool down.  We swam for about an hour before getting out to grab some lunch.  We packed up after that and got ready to check out of the resort.  I wish we could have stayed longer and tried the resort’s other facilities (like the jacuzzi), but unfortunately we had to face reality and return to our everyday lives.

To end this entry, here’s a group shot of us in front of the castle again:

(Please forgive Ezra.  She’s just being her usual manyak self…)
